ANDREW BOORN, BSc, MBA, PhD
Dr. Boorn, who currently serves as Chairman of the Tornado Spectral Systems Board, is a senior executive with over 30 years global experience in delivering profitable growth in highly competitive scientific and technology based business. He is a driver of innovation in developing and launching new products, and in continuous process improvement to achieve sustained competitive advantage. He is experienced in public company M&A and in structuring and operating complex business relationships in a global context, previously serving as the Chief Operating Officer and President at ABSciex and President at MDS Analytical Technologies, a world-leader in the field of analytical instruments and mass spectroscopy. Dr. Boorn received a BSc in Chemistry from Thames Polytechnic, a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and an MBA from the University of Toronto.
AARON WEINROTH, BASc, MASc, PEng
Aaron Weinroth is responsible for many aspects of Tornado’s technology commercialization including marketing, product management, business development, and the company’s intellectual property portfolio. He previously served in senior business and engineering capacities in the medical device and imaging industries for both small early stage growth organizations (XLTEK, Traxtal Technologies) and the large global corporations (Natus Medical, Phillips Healthcare) that acquired them. Aaron earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a licensed professional engineer.
BRADFORD BEHR, BA, PhD
Bradford Behr is a co-inventor of Tornado's proprietary HTVS technology and currently serves as Chief Technology Officer, guiding the company's technology development roadmap and identifying potential additions to the intellectual property portfolio. In his prior role as TSS Senior Optical Scientist he was responsible for optical engineering and system architecture for many of Tornado's prior and current spectroscopy products including the HyperFlux PRO Plus 785 and OCT-Prime. Dr. Behr received his BA in Astronomy from Williams College and his PhD in Astrophysics from the California Institute of Technology. He held postdoctoral research fellowships at The University of Texas McDonald Observatory and the U.S. Naval Observatory, pioneering new analysis methods and cutting-edge astronomical spectrometer designs for quantifying the chemical composition and dynamics of stars in our galaxy. Much of this work has translated directly to Tornado's advancement of the state-of-the-art for terrestrial spectroscopy applications such as real-time monitoring and industrial process analytics.
SCOTT BAKER, BTech, PEng
Scott Baker is a serial entrepreneur with over 23 years of experience positioning startup companies for a sustainable competitive edge. Prior to Tornado Spectral Systems, Mr. Baker served in executive and senior management positions at high tech start-up companies that were successfully acquired or completed an IPO including Fresco Microchip, Silicon Optix, and Genesis Microchip. At Fresco, through a complex worldwide supply chain consisting of firms from Taiwan, China, Malaysia and the USA, he launched novel silicon tuner products and oversaw an unprecedented ramp of 30 million shipments in the first production year. Mr. Baker has a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario.
RICHARD DENIS, BSc
Richard Denis is a seasoned commercial leader with a successful track-record at driving growth in scientific markets. He has held management positions at Thermo Fisher, PerkinElmer, and Roche. Richard has a special interest in the placement of novel and disruptive technologies, like those at Tornado Spectral Systems, and takes great satisfaction in having customers improve their process and analytical capability.
