Photovoltaic manufacturers are under increasing pressure to improve quality and reduce cost. One important process and quality parameter is the degree of crosslinking in the ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) material used as the solar cell embedding material which supports and protects the solar cells.
A Tornado Raman system was packaged for installation in an industrial environment and delivered results equivalent to laboratory tests but with enough speed and stability to deploy on a production line. This Raman method is applicable in for off-line and in-the lab studies, e.g. into the reaction kinetics of EVA curing or curing homogeneity, ii) for curing process condition optimization, and iii) for industrial in-line multi-point PV module process and quality control.
